This collection contains music arranged and collected by John L. Rinn. Approximately half the collection consists of barbershop quartet arrangements Rinn created for his quartet, the Rinntones. Other materials include piano arrangements of pop and jazz pieces; arrangement source materials; and miscellaneous music. Collection includes one of two cassette tapes containing Rinn's instrumental music.

Biographical / Historical

John L. Rinn (born Oct. 20, 1922; died Nov. 12, 2000) was a Sonoma County therapist and workshop leader. He founded and led the Sonoma County barbershop quartet, the Rinntones, which performed numerous of Rinn's arrangements of popular songs. Rinn also arranged and performed jazz and pop music for piano. Rinn served as a workshop leader for artist and dancer Anna Halprin's summer dance workshops at Sea Ranch in the late 1960s and early 1970s. (Source: Worth, Libby, and Helen Poyer.
