Court History
The Petaluma Small Claims Court was a municipal-level court that handled small civil claims. The Petaluma Court came under the jurisdiction of the Sonoma County Municipal Court following court reorganization and consolidation, but continued as a separate court venue. Although state-mandated budget cuts threatened its existence in the early 1990s traffic and parking cases continued to be heard in Petaluma. The Sonoma County Municipal Court was absorbed into the Superior Court following the voter-authorized reorganization in 1998, California Proposition 220.
